Before a ball had been bowled or a bat re-gripped, I knew we were in for something special this season when several Berowra juniors (and parents) were selected to be part of filming a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) Summer of Cricket advert with some of Australia’s cricketing royalty. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, Meg Lanning and Ashley Gardner, the kids were in their element as they filmed countless takes of Steve Smith throwing a ball to a dog with us standing in awe of the “super-throw” by a “super-cricketer”. The day was long, with patience being tested by all and sundry (including the dog), yet there was plenty of time for autographs, photos, and conversations with the players and even a game of cricket in the nets...............
